While international urban culture has for long been fascinated with Jamaican culture, style and slang, until recently there has been little interest in the mother continent. For a long time it was not cool to display any signs of one's African identity. In 2007, renewed interest in African fashion and style seems to come from unexpected directions. Whereas in the 80's and 90's artists' individual styles were all important, now capitalism seems to lead the way in reintroducing African Cool on a larger scale.
