|Bush Radio is a community radio station based in Cape Town, South Africa. It's the longest standing of its kind, and serves as a breeding ground for other stations - many radio makers in SA started their carreer at Bush. |
The radio station, with a large listener base in the townships, is also home to Cape Town's most popular hip hop show Headwarmers which has brought many talented emcees to the surface and helped to spread the word of conscious hip hop. People connected to the show at one time or another include Shamiel X, Fat (BVK), Ready D, Shaheen (ex POC), and long time dj Dre.
This year Bush Radio celebrates its 10th anniversary with 10 days of special broadcasting. Check out the official press release below, and make sure you tune in to their webcast.
Bush radio press release - April 2003
Come celebrate 10 years of community radio with Bush Radio 89.5 FM between May 1st to May 10th. We're celebrating 10 years with 10 days of special events and programmes.
We will kick-off the 10 days with a launch of our live-stream so that people around the world can have a "Bush Experience". Whether you're local or living afar, tune in by visiting our website at www.bushradio.co.za. While you're checking us out, make a pledge (donation) to help us sustain ourselves through the next 10 years. We will hold our first "Friends of Bush" Membership Pledge Drive from May 1-10. Support our 10 years of low budget, high-quality programming with a donation of R10 ($10, 10 Euros) or more. During that time, actual broadcasts from 1993 to the present will be re-aired, including segments from shows and interviews with some of Bush Radio's alumni producers and presenters.
Amongst the excitement of launching new programs and parties, Bush Radio will be busy building a new wall. You can help in "Building Democracy…Brick-by-Brick" by purchasing a brick. With each brick purchased (or donation made) you will be helping Bush Radio to raise enough funds to finally buy the building where we are now housed. Donations of $100 USD for a bronze brick, $250 USD will get you a silver brick, $500 USD a gold brick and $1000 USD will get you a platinum cornerstone. Put your name on the Bush Wall by buying a brick.
